One 12" circle of yellow paper with the Girl Scout Promise written on
it. Edge the circle with a green border. This represents the world of Girl
Scouting.
For each girl, you will need a large petal cut from a piece of 12"x18"
white paper or tag board. On each petal, write the girl's name.
The Ceremony
Place the yellow circle with the green border on the floor. The girls
stand in a horseshoe around this with their individual petals on the floor
behind them.
Together, the leaders and girls say: Each petal of
a flower is as different as can be Similar to
each other, yet special, just like me.
Now, girls and leaders say the Girl Scout Promise.
Next, the leader calls each girl by name, one at a time. The girl brings
her petal and places it down around the yellow circle forming a flower. The
leader pins on her Daisy Girl Scout pin and gives her the Girl Scout
handshake. The leader also gives the new Daisy her Beginning Certificate.
After all of the girls have been invested, you may want to add an
appropriate poem or a reading. Optionally, you may have each girl say why
Girl Scouting is important to her or what she likes best (so far) about
being a Girl Scout.
End the ceremony by singing
Make New Friends
I'm a Daisy Girl Scout (to the tune of I'm a Little
Teapot) I'm a Daisy
Girl Scout / Watch me grow From my
head / Down to my toes When we get
together / We all say: Let's have
fun / the Girl Scout way.
